Peloponnese Stops in 2018/2019

Picture

Places at which we actually stopped
The coordinates should be accurate, but no guarantees. Hopefully the photos will help to clarify the last few meters.

Galatas East, Greece

Picture
Lovely views to island of Poros.
N 37° 29.715'
E 23° 27.323'
This is one of PeeJay’s Night Stops. Scruffy dirt car park with a level concrete slab. Watch out for dropped nails.
The wifi listed on the PJ site is trying to work but never made it.  A local cafe proved much better for the price of a coffee.
In 2019 the place had been tidied up but still beware of dropped nails.

Achillio, Greece

Picture
N 39° 0.566'
E 22° 57.455'
Small parking area at entrance to village and next to the sea. The views and the people are lovely. The yacht charter company in the village allowed us to use their internet. No other facilities except a disused toilet block 50 meters away.

Paralia Irion, Greece

Picture
N 37° 28.663'
E 23° 0.001'
One of PeeJay’s. Not used as Night Stop but could be. It made a great place for our late breakfast. Pleasant little harbour. A lot of boats for such a tiny place.

Nafplio Harbour, Greece

Picture
N 37° 34.165'
E 22° 48.069'
One of PJ’s. Big harbour with lots of space. But was a little noisy in March. Workers loading trucks with parts of wind turbines. Locals find it fun to drive backwards and forwards. Other than that it’s a well lit useful place.
In 2018 an area had been set aside for MHs at the far end from the entrance.

Argolida Nafplio - AUTOGAS, Greece

Picture
N    37° 35.538'
E    22° 46.956'
N.B. Approximate coordinates.
Not a Night Stop. An Autogas (LPG) station. Entrance and exit a bit tight. Follow coast road West from Nafplio. Keeping sea on left the station is about one mile from Nafplio. Well signposted.
NOT NEEDED NOW BECAUSE MOST TOWN FILLING STATIONS HAVE AUTOGAS.

Paralio Astros, Greece

Picture
N 37° 24.633'
E 22° 45.617'
One of PJ’s. We had a peaceful night here. Watch out for the one-way streets. The SatNav does not recognise them.

Plaka, Greece

Picture
N 37° 8.758'
E 22° 53.535'
These coordinates are for the sea front which is not a good place to stop. But move 200 meters North past the Coastguard Station and there is a new(ish) tarmac car park. OK for one night out of season. Bar and toilets between Coastguard and bar. The paying site nearby was not open in March.

Kosmas, Greece

Picture
N 37° 5.508
E 22° 44.426
One from PJ’s list. Lovely spot on car park behind church. Very peaceful and the roads to and from are spectacular. No problem for 7.5 meter unit. Water from behind the church.

Mezapos, Greece

Picture
N 36° 32.531'
E 22° 23.455'
One from PJ’s list. A little tight through the village but no problems because at end of road is a wide paved car park next to the church. Beautiful views over small harbour. Car park slopes a little.

Kokkinogeia, Greece

Picture
N 36° 24.139'
E 22° 29.167'
Car park at southern end of road to Cape Tenaro. You can go no further. Signs stating "no camping" but in March we were the only vehicle for miles around. Absolutely no facilities. Worth a visit.

Agios Nikolaos, Greece

Picture
N 36° 49.375'
E 22° 17.015'
Large earth car park with lots of space. Gregg’s Plateia (bar) provide a very warm welcome and use of their wi-fi. So pleasant we stayed three nights and toured the area.
These coordinates are now correct. We have stopped here several times and are always greeted as long lost friends.

Kotronas Harbour, Greece

Picture
N 36° 37.131
E 22° 29.619
Nice wide quay with lovely views. Find Kotronas and you will find the quay. Very peaceful and a good spot to try some fishing.

Camp Gythion Bay, Greece

Picture
N 36° 43.690'
E 22° 32.768'
Pleasant grassed campsite open all year. Wifi is exceedingly slow and erratic. The money for the new swimming pool could have been better spent.

Plytra, Greece

Picture
N 36° 41.282
E 22° 50.311
Pleasant little fishing village probably used by Greeks. Camped under Eucalyptus trees next to harbour. Sign stated “no camping” but locals said OK  out of season (March). Good restaurants and bars. The wide roads are a very noticeable feature of the village. According to a local lady the streets were planned by a Belgian; the same man who planned the wide streets of Sparti.

Camping Finikes, Greece

Picture
N 36° 48.180'
E 21° 46.852'
Cosy place to over-winter. Own toilet and shower, with key. Electric and Wi-Fi all day included in price. Lovely Finikunda village and shops not too far away. Always something happening in winter... carnival, epiphany, etc. Excellent sandy beach. Most pitches shaded.
Favourite because there is always a good family atmosphere on the camp with everybody "mucking in".

NOVEMBER 2022 THE OWNER TOLD US THE CAMP WILL NOT OPEN IN WINTER BECAUSE OF THE HIGH COST OF ELECTRICITY

Irion Beach Campsite, Greece

Picture
N 37° 29.839'
E 22° 59.471'
Very pleasant campsite with usual facilities and bound to get even better. The owner is working very hard all the time. Sadly the wi-fi internet connection is the slowest we’ve ever experienced and costs €3 per 24 hours. To download a 40 minute movie took 6 hours. SKYPE was out of the question. €14 per night and €5 per wash. Even the washing machine was slow at over 2 hours per cycle.

Archea Epidavros, Greece

Picture
N 37° 38.222'
E 23° 9.432'
Parking in centre of town. Bessy is visible behind the trees... honest. We could only obtain wi-fi from a taverna. Pleasant, but many coaches and parties of school kids from Belgium. Nice they may be, but they were very noisy. There are other places to overnight in the vicinity.
See below.

Korfos, Greece

Picture
N 37° 45.814
E 23° 7.427
Parking by the beach to the south west of the town according to PJ’s list. However it was very scruffy and crowded out by goats and their waste. We parked on the road in the village opposite Nautilus Taverna where we had the fastest Wi-Fi ever. Downloaded a 40 minute movie in only 3 minutes. Also very friendly people in the bar. PJ’s spot probably better in season.
There is an area set aside for MHs at far end of the town.
See below.

Ancient Corinth, Greece

Picture
N 37°54.696'
E 22°52.742'
Called “Camper Stop”. We had a very warm welcome and coffees from the grandfather who spoke French and his 12 year old grandson who spoke English. The disadvantages of the site are that it is not level and there is no internet. The advantages are several. First of all the friendly owners, then the proximity to the ancient sites. There’s water, electricity, a motorhome dump and a peaceful atmosphere. The entrance is on quite a steep hill but do not be afraid to follow the signs. In fact better signed than the ancient site. We did and our MH is 7.5 meters long. Although only 2 year old the site is maturing and worth visiting, especially for the price.

Lake Vouliagmenis, Greece

Picture
N 38° 1.913'
E 22° 52.376'
Very pretty spot next to a very peaceful lake and taverna. We could use the toilets. No other facilities but so pleasant we stayed 2 nights. One of our favourites.

Cape Melangavi, Greece

Picture
N 38° 1.724'
E 22° 51.196'
One of PJ's Night Stops. We didn’t stay here as Lake Vouliagmenis was only one mile away. It could be a nice spot but at the moment workmen are building paths down to the ruins.

Pachi, Greece

Picture
N 37° 58.399'
E 23° 22.035'
The original PJ night stop in the harbour was impossible with hundreds of cars crowding out the village. Sunday 8 April. However 300 meters through the village is a large car park (50% surfaced). As evening progressed cars began to leave. Sea view but no facilities.

Camping Nea Kifissia, Athens

Picture
N 38° 6.014
E 23° 47.549
Small campsite with friendly staff who speak English.  The staff will sell you tickets and you can get the bus, outside the gate, to the Metro and then into the city. About 40 minutes. Washing machine is free. Wi-Fi is variable. Good when working.

Sounion, Greece

Picture
N 37° 39.312
E 24° 1.482
Down steep hill to dirt car park behind two tavernas on beach below Poseidon Temple. Only a few reasonably level places. No facilities but great view of Poseidon Temple.

CAMPING SHOP, Greece

N37° 50.850'
E23° 49.560'
Not a Night Stop but a useful shop for buying Loo Blue and other useful things. Very helpful staff.

Vravrona, Greece

Picture
N 37° 54.787
E 24° 2.235
Dirt car park on top of headland with great sea views, 100 yards before the end of the asphalt. After that it’s Land Rover territory. Locals seem to come her to admire the view and then go home. This spot was recommended by Brian and Carol.

Schinias Beach, Greece

Picture
N 38° 8.592
E 24° 2.681
Fantastic beach with lots of pine tree shade found by Brian and Carol. Sandy but drivable surface. There are several flat concrete areas.  Mosquitos under trees so stay near beach for the wind. However in the morning, Easter Sunday, a warden lady took a photo of the MH and told us we could stay all day but NOT at night!

Olympic Rowing Area Car Park, Greece

Picture
N 38° 8.467
E 24° 0.701
Large flat asphalt car park looking totally unused except for tyre tracks where the local hooligans have been showing off. Sadly, around 2200 we had to put up with one hour of drag racing along the straight road past the car park. The car park has lots of useful drains.

Marathon Museum, Greece

Picture
N 38° 7.316'
E 23° 56.834'
Small tarmac car park in market garden area. Very quiet. No facilities.

Eretrea Beach, Greece

Picture
N 38° 23.367'
E 23° 48.090'
Parking on narrow beach next to Taverna but moved to shelter of Taverna during very windy night. The hotel across the road, Eviana Beach, had free wifi.

Eretrea Quay, Greece

Picture
N 38° 23.269'
E 23° 47.410'
We did not stop here but there were two French MHs and a nice Dutch couple. They had parked here for 3 days. Very flat concrete, quiet and not far from local supermarket.

Aghios Dimitrios, Greece

Picture
N 38° 16.876'
E 24° 9.025'
Almost an idyllic setting. Next to beach under pines.  One mile walk to Panagia for taverna, shops, etc. No facilities.
Since 2018 it is not idyllic. Several fixed MHs and caravans and a disco. Very sad.

Karystos, Greece

Picture
N 38° 0.802'
E 24° 25.026
Small car park next to harbour. A very busy medium sized town and in the evening it becomes very noisy. But the Zygos Pizza restaurant across the road has free wifi. Despite the general noise we stayed 2 nights because the weather was good and the atmosphere was good. There are quieter areas along the beach.

Aghios Apostoli, Greece

Picture
N 38° 24.541'
E 24° 11.893'
Lovely little village. Very peaceful and unspoiled. We stopped on a large gravel car park. There used to be a public toilet but it’s now defunct. However the village was spotless, the beach was spotless and the people were charming. Do NOT drive through Petries, as the Sat Nav will suggest. Petries is very narrow. Take the new road, which is signposted.
Highly recommended.

Camp Milos - Eretrea, Greece

Picture
N 38° 23.465'
E 23° 46.511'
Quiet little campsite mainly for residential caravans. Warm reception but no wifi. Owners said they were fixing that the next day... and they did. Full facilities.

Hosios Loukas Monastery, Greece

Picture
N 38° 23.717'
E 22° 44.753'
Very peaceful car park when the tourist buses have left. Difficult to find a flat area. Toilets available at the Monastery.

Itea Marina, Greece

Picture
N 38° 25.890'
E 22° 25.278'
Surprisingly peaceful and flat area in abandoned marina. People walking around but no motorbikes or noisy cars. Very flat. No facilities but handy for a trip to Delphi.

Thermopile, Greece

Picture
N 38° 47.681'N
E 22° 31.702'
Several vehicles around and people wallowing in the hot spring stream. A few Turkish trucks. The dirt area next to the spring is now clearly off limits so we parked on the access roadway with the trucks.
Akti Beach is not far away and much more pleasant.
See below.

Vergina, Greece

Picture
N 40.48514
E 22.31957
A small asphalt car park that’s reasonably level. The owners from the adjacent house close the gates at night “to keep the dogs out”. There is a recycling bin, wifi, water and electricity for the grand sum of €7. The wife, Annamaria, is German and speaks good English.
In two or three minutes you can be at the museum, the archeological site, the main street and the tavernas.

Greece, Lake Kerkini, Elodia Taverna NS

Picture
N 41° 12.710
E 23° 05.707
One of the most peaceful places we’ve visited. A fantastic lake full of birds of all description... including pelicans. 200 meters away is the small harbour where you can take a boat to see more birds than you ever thought existed. You are welcome to stop in the grounds of Elodia Taverna. A large well organised taverna run by a charming family. The taverna has it’s own small lake with ducks. They even own a herd of buffalo... which appear on the menu. Internet is available in the restaurant.
A favourite place for a first and last stop in Greece near the border with Bulgaria.

Greece, Drepano’s Beach, Igoumenitsa NS

Picture
N 39°30.887

E 20°12.679

Lovely spot on a beach between the sea and a lagoon. Only 5 or 6 Km from the port. When the wind blows, as it did, this is a very exposed spot. Good for ferry spotting and quiet. Street lights nearby. Restaurant has wifi at weekends. Disused toilets have pipes leading from back with a large screw cap. Good for dumping. A few hundred meters up the beach are a couple of taps for fresh water.

Greece, Prevezo Port NS

Picture
N 38°57.648

E 20°45.457

The coordinates are good, but treat the SatNav map with caution. Site is flat and lit at night overlooking city. No obvious facilities.

Greece, Krioneri NS

Picture
N 38°20.630
E 21°35.915
A lovely spot at the end of the village between the cliff and the sea on a bit of grass. No facilities but a nice place. Sadly there are rocks almost blocking the road and a sign forbidding caravans and cars. As we are neither and it is out of season we squeezed through the gap. This may be a PJ spot but we are having trouble with Google Earth so we cannot confirm this. If it is... sorry Pete.

Greece, Ionian Beach Campsite

Picture
N 37°50.102

E 21°7.931
A very attractive clean and tidy campsite which is well equipped. Lighting, electricity, showers, toilets; all in excellent order. Out of season you have to go to reception between 1800 and 1900 to book in, and there you can also pay to obtain a password for internet. The web details state that if you want faster connection tell them at reception.

Greece, Kardamyli NS

Picture
N 36° 53.497'
E 22° 13.707'
From Kalamata take right turn just before church in Kardamyli. After 500 meters is a rough car park on right just after the football field. Waste bins nearby, and water tap in adjacent football field. Very pleasant taverna, Gialos, close by with free internet.  Beautiful village to stroll around.

Neo Itilo NS

Picture
N 36° 41.572'
E 22° 23.365'
Park on the sea front on the road parallel to the main road. No facilities, but quiet and flat. Also very exposed to the wind. Good local taverna called Oasis.

Camping Hellas, Kala Nero, Greece

Picture
N 39° 18.609'
E 23° 6.502'
A very well appointed campsite next to the sea with inside bar, outside bar, shop, wifi, electricity. Washing machines were free. Owners very kind and friendly. Take note: they plan to remain open in the winter of 2013. A lot of German MHs were in long term residence.

Kalo Nera Harbour NS Greece

Picture
N 39° 18.464'
E 23° 6.747'
Flat harbour side. Very quiet. Walking distance to lovely resort of Kala Nera.

Nea Anchialios NS Greece

Picture
N 39° 16.590'
E 22° 49.249'
Next to harbour. Could have found a quieter place along seafront but beware of oneway streets, Lights, level, but no other facilities. Pleasant little town with old ruin.

Alogoperos NS Greece

Picture
N 39° 8.635'
E 23° 4.889'
A slightly sloping car park behind the taverna on the beach. The owners were happy for us to park on the pebble beach in front of the taverna but at that time we may have blocked another car. We used the taverna toilets but there are no other facilities besides peace and quiet. Catch the ferry to the island from here.

Triton II Campsite, Drepano, Greece

Picture
N 37° 31.983'
E 22° 53.386'
Good clean campsite with all facilities near pebble beach. Very friendly staff.

Salanti Beach NS Greece

Picture
N 37° 26.904'
E 23° 7.516'
Very peaceful wide beach with some shade in front of abandoned Beach Resort. No facilities but there is an abandoned toilet in the complex.

Porto Cheli NS Greece

Picture
N 37° 19.497'
E 23° 8.629'
Car park next to seafront. Lights and tavernas nearby. Quiet out of season.

Kilada NS Greece

Picture
N 37° 24.826'
E 37° 24.826'
Very quiet attractive town. No facilities but good internet cafe called Happy Flo nearby. Peaceful.
Possible to park in harbour. See below.

Sparta NS Greece

Picture
N 37° 4.772'
E 22° 25.613'
Quiet street next to infants school. Only yards from Ancient Sparta ruins.

North of Paralia Astros Greece

Picture
N 37° 26.745'
E 22° 44.888'
Flat beachside car park with some shade. Not far from main road but quiet.

Alexandropouli Campsite Greece

Picture
N 40° 50.812'
E 25° 51.370'
17.50 per night. Free wifi in 30 minute sessions. Good site before crossing into Turkey. Easy walk into town from site. Entry from Don Madge.
Note: the wifi is dreadfully slow.

Fanari NS Greece

Picture
N 40° 57.239'
E 25° 8.883'
Very quiet and very long beach with a few shade trees. Lots of parking. When we were there in April there were no facilities at all. We are told that there is a lot of bird life on the lake but we saw only a few swans.

Loutra NS Greece

Picture
N 39° 55.740'
E 23° 35.070'
Quiet street next to church in quiet village. Street lights only. Nice taverna nearby.

Porto Koufo NS Greece

Picture
N 39° 55.740'
E 23° 35.070'
Very pleasant village with a small harbour that can be very busy at night with trawlers. Stay away from the harbour area because trucks come for the fish at night, and park on the street to the north.

Stratoni NS Greece

Picture
N 40° 30.616'
E 23° 49.545'
Large open area near harbour opposite a taverna. Only facility is street lighting. Town has a gold mine at opposite end. We have seen it posted that this is an official paying MH stop with facilities... we saw nothing to that effect.

Alogoporos NS Greece

Picture
N 39° 8.643'
E 23° 4.881'
We parked with permission in the car park of a tavern. There is little other space as it is the site of the ferry to Paleo Trikeri.

Kala Nera Harbour NS Greece

Picture
N 39° 18.469'
E 23° 6.751'
Enough space in the corner to be out of the way in this small harbour. Short walk through olive grove into the pretty little village.

Leptokorya NS Greece

Picture
N 40° 3.367'
E 22° 34.193'
Parked on road south of town. Quiet and illuminated. Could be noisy in season. We were parked outside a, fortunately, closed disco. LIDL in the town.

Melenikitsi Truck Stop NS, Greece

Picture
N 41° 7.754'
E 23° 26.677'
Dirt car park next to a filling station. €3 a night to park. Quiet. Toilets are terrible low type.
In brief... don't bother.

Greece, Kamares Beach NS

Picture
N 36° 40.778'
E 22° 31.318'
A long gravel beach with several places to pull up for a night or two. There are no facilities at all but the location is superb. Lovely views over to Gythio around 10 Km away. The approach can be difficult or easy. If approaching from Areopolis take the road to Kotronas and turn off to the right for the coordinates. If you go further along the main road to Gythion the smaller road will take you through some very narrow roads and across a shallow ford.
The village of Kamares has a taverna but it was not open in April. We are told that it is a popular stop for motorhomers in Summer and the Police will ask you to move on.

Greece, Limini Gerakas NS

Picture
N 36° 47.125'
E 23° 5.209'
Absolutely delightful village in a fjord. The drive through the village is narrow but there is a harbour area with lots of space for turning. There are no facilities but the local taverna, Zikos, was very helpful re water and internet. This has to be one of our top ten places to stop.

Greece, Agios Fokas NS

Picture
N 36° 35.721'
E 23° 3.659'
A very isolated spot south of Monemvasia. It’s as far as the road goes. Hard dirt car park near the village cemetery with fantastic views of the mountains. Feels very isolated and good for that. No facilities at all. Very exposed to high winds. No internet.

Greece, Viglafia NS

Picture
N 36° 31.198'
E 22° 59.053'
A quiet corner in the dunes near the village. Beware of soft sand and also swamp under the sandy crust. No facilities. Near to the ferry for Elafonisos. No internet.
Signs indicate this is a protected area.

Greece, Bozas Taverna NS

Picture
N 36° 42.239'
E 22° 49.227'
This is a beautiful beach with one taverna that opens at weekends. There is a large tarmac area outside the taverna and parking among the trees behind. The owners are very kind and the food is good. This is another possible for the top-ten places to spend a few days... we did. Water is available. No internet.

Greece, Kokkinia NS

Picture
N 36° 47.830'
E 22° 47.137'
Dusty road alongside the beach. No shade and only a small grassed area to escape the dust. No facilities.

Greece, Reichea beach NS

Picture
N 36° 51.502'
E 23° 2.287'
Very isolated beach down steep windy road. Very narrow. The setting is superb. Quiet, peaceful and miles from anywhere. No facilities at all. Another favourite.
NOTE: If you have anything longer than 7.5 meters do not even think about it!

Greece, Camp Paleologio

Picture

Very pleasant campsite where everyone wants to chat. It’s right on the white pebble beach. €37 for 2 people, camper and electric for 2 nights. There are permanent campers, one has been coming here for 38 years! Plenty of space and a good bar, mini-market and restaurant. The owner Emmanuele (sorry for spelling) speaks excellent English and is always on site and very helpful. Full facilities and excellent free wifi. Well worth calling in if you are on the south shore of the Gulf of Corinth. We were given a free ride into Diakofto station to take the train through the gorge to Kalavvrita. Link:

This was recommended on the internet but the car park was full. Soon after arriving the road was full so we stayed. Very busy road next to lake. Locals come here for a jog, etc. During night noise of “drumming” from a disco somewhere. It carried on until 07:00 in the morning. Not a good place. The local campsite Limnopoula would be worth paying for.

A few kilometers south of this spot is a wild camping area at Kala Nero. It was absolutely packed with German motorhomes and we had to move on. The place we soon found, at Giannitsochori, was deserted. However it had shade trees in the dunes, where we stopped, and a nice beach. No facilities at all but an excellent spot for one night.

Greece, Camp Aginara Beach

Picture
N 37° 50.291'
E 21° 7.787'
The camp overlooks one of the most beautiful beaches in western Peloponnese. It has all the facilities you need, a mini-market, an excellent restaurant and a well situated beach bar. There is a great deal of shade and the pitches are spacious. All pitches have electricity, water and free wifi.
We consider that this camp is far better than the nearby Ionian Beach camp; in fact it is probably the best run campsite we have found so far in Greece. The downside is that everything caters for German tourists. All signs are in German and all the staff speak German rather than English. But the old lady at the reception speaks good English and is very kind and welcoming.

Ammoudia is a very attractive small fishing village at the mouth of the river Acheron. Motorhomes park under the shade trees next to the beach. Within 100 meters is a shop/taverna with toilets which seems to cater mainly for the motorhomers.
We saw another 15 motorhomes parked next to the river, but there is no shade.

It’s very difficult to rate this place because the owner Nikos is so friendly and helpful. However despite the good intentions the campsite is almost empty when the neighbouring ones are packed. There are toilets and showers (run down). There is electricity and wifi (If you sit next to the road). Lots of shade, benches and beach access. A restaurant/bar which serves good food (if you order it earlier in the day). Generally the place is run down but we spent two peaceful nights here for the exorbitant price of €20 per night.

Electric hookup at one end of the row of pitches so if you are unlucky you will need a long cable.
