Amara Campsite, Amara, Romania

N 44° 36.456'
E 27° 19.135'
Small, peaceful and reasonably tidy campsite. Toilets and showers are acceptable. There is electricity if you park near the old reception shed and plug in inside the shed. There is no wifi. But there is a small bar/cafe which serves “crap” which we assume is Romanian for carp.

Balta Alba Summer Club, Romania

N 45° 18.315'
E 27° 18.530'
At the side of a lake which is mainly covered in algae. It is really a resort for the locals to enjoy sunbathing and coating themselves in mud. On a Thursday in July it was a quiet place. There are two restaurants: the one by the gate looks the cleanest. There is a tarmac car park, electricity and water. The best toilets are in the restaurant by the gate. The area has a swimming pool but the green water put us off. The nice thing is the decking out over the lake that allows you to watch the plentiful birdlife.

Bacau Campsite, Romania

N 46° 36.928'
E 26° 54.303'
Large scruffy camp on northern outskirts of Bacau. Situated in a large park. There is electricity and toilets for the brave. The place is ex-communist that has been left to rot. People are working on it, but it will take time. The good part is the swimming pool and bar which are in pretty good condition. Sadly on Friday evening the local intellectuals come to listen to rap music. Cost 30 RON. (about £6)

Mercurea Ciuc (Csikszereda), Romania

N 46°19.738
E 25°48.804
Nothing more than a small car park next to a very quiet road south of the town. For some reason there is a Portaloo which is useful for dumping. Within 100 yards is a simple spring water area. The water is rich in iron and has a flavour, but not disgusting.

Sub Cetate NS, Romania

N 46°27.006
E 25°23.542
This is a large yard outside a large pension. The owner, Lajos and his wife Jolana are extremely hospitable and we were soon sharing a beer and a palinka together. We had access to the immaculate toilets and showers, electricity and a share of his son’s wifi... good lad.
The village is not far from Odorheiu Secuiesc (Székelyudvarhely as we prefer to call it) and in a lovely valley.

Körispatak, Romania, NS

We were visiting the famous Straw Hat Museum in Körispatak and a kind man called Laszló allowed us to park in his garden. For that reason we are not publishing the coordinates of his house. However the coordinates of the Straw Hat Museum are here:
N 46° 25.032'
E 24° 58.314'
The village is very peaceful, but be warned that there is no asphalt in the village. The villagers don’t want people racing through. There are several places you can stop; ask at the museum.

Sovate Vasskert Camping, Romania

N 46° 35.487'
E 25° 4.323'
This is one of the prettiest campsites we’ve been in. It is like camping on someone’s best lawn. In fact the owners live on the site and treat the place as their own garden. Flowers everywhere, shade, kitchen, dump, water, electric, wifi. Beware when approaching from the south because the entrance is narrow, take a wide turn into the camp.

Colibitsa Forest picnic place NS, Romania

The picnic place is up a steep rough track, about 150 meters. There are some level places and some barbecue pits. Very quiet and peaceful.
Vladimir Camping, Ciocanesti, Romania

N 47° 29.730'
E 25° 15.535'
We found this camp by stopping to look at the map, and there was the camp at the other side of the road. First impressions did not look good because the part by the road was simply very long grass. However at the top of the drive to the house we met Vladimir who showed us around. The place for motorhomes is at the back of the house. Everything is very rustic, but there is water, electric, chemical toilet dump and wifi. Most of all there is Vladimir who is an absolutely charming gentleman who speaks English, French, Russian and Romanian. He will cook good homemade Romanian food for you. We met some Dutch motorhomers there and along with Vladimir we had a lovely time. Sadly the camp is along one of the worst roads in Romania, but the peace and quiet and Vladimir make it worthwhile. Please visit. 10 RON per person.

Viseu de Sus Station, Romania

N 47° 42.902'
E 24° 26.618'
Concrete car park for station for the Carpathian Forest Steam Train. There are very clean toilets and showers. Electricity. The snack bar allows use of their wifi. It is not beautiful but it is fascinating to see the locomotives and carriages. 40 RON per night. The roads in the area are bad. The EU project to repair them by August 2013 had not started in July 2013!

Barsana Monastery NS, Romania

N 47° 47.604'
E 24° 5.628'
The entrance to the monastery has a large car park next to the road. However, further up the hill is an overflow car park. No facilities at all but a very peaceful night.

Sapanta, Poieni Campsite, Romania

N 47° 56.865'
E 23° 41.916'
From the main road turn to the Merry Cemetery and continue on the same road to the end of the village. The site is next to a Pension. The area is grassed and level. There are clean toilets and showers, electrcity and wifi on the terrace of the Pension. There is not a lot of space. At around 1800 the place filled up dramatically and two A-class motorhomes were turned away.

This is simply an asphalt car park opposite a hotel/trout farm. It is next to the road but very very peaceful. The owner of the hotel said we could park there. They have some very big trout in the ponds!

Bulz Campsite, Romania

N 46°56.829
E 22°40.619
Very large grass field next to a river with several yellow wooden huts for tourists. Although only a few hundred yards from the main road it is very quiet. Beautiful surroundings. There is a tap and some toilets of reasonable quality. The lady owner allowed us to charge the laptop in one of the wooden huts. Cost was 10 RON per night but a little confusing. She asked, in Romanian, were we fishing. We said no, so she held up only 5 fingers, but kept the 10 RON note. Whatever... 10 RON is about £2.00. Excellent value for money.

Romania, Ledo Camping

N 45° 41.290'
E 22° 51.234'
Pleasant spot by Lake Cincis catering mainly for day trippers and a few tents. However there is a level area reserved for 4 or 5 motorhomes with electricity. Excellent bar and snack bar on the camp. There are open air cold showers for those who have been swimming in the lake... or anyone if they are sweaty enough. Sadly the toilets are disgusting French type and should be avoided. Cost 10 RON or about £2.

Romania, Orsova, Pensiunea Danubia

N 44° 40.730'
E 22° 19.883'
The hotel car park is on the banks of the Danube near the so-called Iron Gate where the Danube narrows down considerably and is an obstruction to shipping. Cost is €10.00 per night. Electricity costs another €5.00. Water and dump are available, but a little primitive. However the restaurant and bar are excellent and the food is very good. River trips and other activities can be arranged. When we were there 18 (yes 18) German motorhomes arrived so it was a little cosy.

Small grassy campsite next to a hotel. Register at the hotel and the man comes to open the gate. Although quite primitive there are clean toilets and showers. Shade trees as if this used to be an orchard. Although next to the main road it is quiet.
