Camp Bella Italia, Lake Garda
N 45° 26.666'
E 10° 40.426'
They wanted €16 for the night but all plots were full, so we ended up in the sports field. Not bad but not too level. At least we have electricity in the price.
However WiFi is a different matter. €3 for one hour and only €15 for 5 hours. We did not bother, but pointed out the error of their ways.
The camp is enormous. There are 41 rows of plots from the road to the lake, and 60 plots across. The plots are made up of brick-built bungalows, mobile homes, tents and caravan/motorhome pitches. There is everything for everyone who loves Butlins and Pontins, shops, pools, bars, restaurants, discos, pizza parlours, etc.

Camp Europa, Dervio

On the waterfront at Dervio, Lake Como. Small area for travellers. Rest of camp is filled with static vans. All the facilities. Lovely views of Lake Como. Free WiFi at coffee shop. This was closed along with the shop at this time in the season. We were warmly welcomed by English speaking Patricia. A very peaceful place to spend an evening. But low trees tore off the TV antenna. Coin operated showers are bit excessive when paying €20.

We saw the sign for Camp Sassebanek and asked if we could park somewhere. Just outside the gates is a triangle of grass and gravel. Absolutely no facilities, but we used the spot twice. The entertainment value of watching joggers, cyclists and people taking lessons in Nordic Walking made it worthwhile. Probably best to ask at the camp because there are signs forbidding campers.

This is basically a large car park with places for about 200 cars and 20 motorhomes. The area is flat tarmac and well lit at night. There is a dump. But the good thing is the bus stops at the car park. The parking ticket, when entered into a machine, costs €8.40 and then doubles as a bus ticket to the very attractive city.

Not the nicest Aire as it is next to the bus station and a large car park. People are walking around all the time. The Aire costs €6 a day, plus €2 to dump grey water, €1 for a dump and €1 for 100 liters of water. PLUS the electricity costs €0.50 for 2 hours at only 300 watts. But the Medieval city is lovely and the castle is an amazing brick structure.
But the next door car park appears to be free. So if you have a short MH use the free park and put your wire over the fence for electricity!

We didn’t stop on the actual sosta which is a sort of run down campsite. Instead we drove 50 meters past, through a dismantled height barrier, and camped on the gravel next to the sea. Later some workmen came with a pick-up and erected the barrier. They said we were OK for sleeping as they will take the barrier down in the morning... and they did.
No facilities, even at the sosta.

Palermo has a fearsome reputation for crime and traffic so we were wary of using this sosta. However, it was a left turn off the main road and a left turn to the sosta. Not bad at all. The sosta is a car park surrounded by blocks of flats. Motorhomes have one end and locals’ cars the other end. For €20 a night you have a dump, electricity, non-drinking water, a small shower and free wifi; probably the best we’ve had in Italy. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The big advantage is that you are just 1 km walk from all the sites of the city. It’s not a beautiful sosta but is highly recommended.

Large campsite under tall pines. It is well populated with semi-permanent caravans and assorted tents. We were here about 10 year ago and it was pleasant. Now, to be honest, the place is a bit on the scruffy side and showing it’s age. There is electric and water but no internet other than by taking a cable and laptop to the reception. Beach is a long walk downhill but the camp seems to run some sort of shuttle service to the beach. Limited services and small toilet block. The next door camp, Riva dei Greci, is noisy; they like loudspeakers! But they have internet. €15 a night.

We parked but could find nobody to speak to so we stopped for the night. In the morning the owner/manager was around. The nice man was OK with our actions and did not want any money for our stop. Granted we had not used any of the camp facilities.
