Hungarian Campsites
We recently found the following website http://www.campinform.eu.
It answers the questions some of you may have about campsites in Hungary. Unfortunately the addresses given demand a certain local knowledge and understanding of Hungarian attitudes.
Because the addresses are often vague they would be useless when trying to use a GPS.
We have therefore attempted to position them in Google Earth according to the addresses supplied.
However, sometimes Google Earth does not recognise house numbers in Hungary. Therefore only the street is shown. The GE map will give you a set of coordinates and they will act as a guide when in a small town or village.
Also, from GE, some of the sites appear to be a house where you can "camp" in the garden. It is also possible that some people have supplied their business address and not the actual campsite address!
For example, "Angling Center and Relaxing Park" is situated in the middle of the small town of Kundacs. Yet it is labelled as being a waterside campsite.
Be aware that the concept of camping in Central and Eastern Europe is often different to Western Europe. For example, a campsite may not have spaces for tents or motorhomes, but will be filled with small wooden huts.
Fortunately some of the campsites have their own website which should provide further details. In some cases you will need a working knowledge of Hungarian.
Despite the above comments, many of the sites appear to be very well appointed and well managed.
